Unidroit Activities to be Funded by the ULF
Databases on Uniform Law
UNIDROIT is creating a powerful central database, UNILAW, covering uniform private law instruments and their evolution and implementation. It will provide:
- ready access to the status of ratifications
- bibliographical references, and
- decisions of national courts which interpret and apply them.
The UNILAW data base, allied to the existing UNILEX database which specialises on CISG and the UNIDROIT Principles of International Commercial Contracts, will prove of immense value to
- Governments,
- practising and academic lawyers,
- in-house counsel in industry, commerce and banking, and
- others involved in international trade.
Legal Assistance - Scholarships
Developing countries and States wishing to modernise their laws and adapt them to the needs of a market economy naturally wish to draw on the experiences of other legal systems and to be made aware of legal developments at the international level. UNIDROIT provides assistance in various ways, including:
- the provision of consultancy services and
- scholarships for young lawyers in Government or private practice.
The UNIDROIT Documentation Centre
The UNIDROIT law library is an essential research resource which needs to be transformed into a modern documentation centre. It currently holds:
- 240,000 volumes, and
- subscribes to 450 legal periodicals.
The Library catalogue is being transformed into an electronic catalogue available at: http://asp01.exl.de/F.
Documentation also includes UNIDROIT publications:
- UNIDROIT Proceedings and Papers comprising the documents issued by the organisation year by year,
- the quarterly Uniform Law Review,
- the Proceedings of UNIDROIT Diplomatic Conferences and Congresses,
- the UNIDROIT Principles of International Commercial Contracts 2004 and
- the Guide to International Master Franchise Arrangements (2007).
These important publications raise among practising lawyers and academics the level of awareness of uniform law projects and instruments.
