UNIDROIT periodically organises international congresses, meetings and seminars to discuss topical aspects of the harmonised modernisation of law, such as methodology and its practical applications, whether to specific projects or in general.These events bring together judges, arbitrators, academics and practising lawyers as well as national and international civil servants.The acts are subsequently published.

The most recent general congress was held on 27 and 28 September 2002 to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the Founding of UNIDROIT.The subject-matter of the Congress was "Worldwide Harmonisation of Private Law and Regional Economic Integration".

PREVIOUS GENERAL CONGRESSES:

The First Congress on Private Law, Rome 8 – 16 July 1950.

The Second Congress on Private Law, Rome, 9 – 15 September 1976, on "New Directions in International Trade Law"; and

The Third Congress on Private Law, Rome 7 – 10 September 1987, on "International Uniform Law in Practice";

Seminar on "The World Organisation for a Modern Private Law in the Era of Globalisation", held in Rome on 25 November 1999;

Franchising: Legislazione e Pratica – Presente e Futuro (Franchising: Legislation and Practice – Present and Future) held on 24 November 2000 in collaboration with the Federazione Italiana Franchising (FIF);

The use of the UNIDROIT Principles of International Commercial Contracts in International Commercial Arbitration, held in Paris, France, on 27 April 2001 in collaboration with the ICC International Court of Arbitration;

Legal Risk and Market Efficiency – Developing Harmonised Substantive Rules regarding Indirectly Held Securities, held in Rome on 12 November 2003;

The Preliminary Draft Rail Protocol to the Cape Town Convention on International Interests in Mobile Equipment:An Opportunity for Government and Industry to Compare Notes in the Run-Up to the Diplomatic Conference, held in Warsaw, Poland, 15 – 16 April 2004; The Preliminary Draft Protocol to the Cape Town Convention on International Interests in Mobile Equipment on Matters Specific to Space Assets:An Opportunity for Representatives of Government and Industry to Compare Notes, held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 22 – 23 April 2004;

Seminar on the Convention on International Interests in Mobile Equipment and the Protocol thereto on Matters specific to Aircraft Equipment for the Countries of Asia and the Asia-Pacific Region, held in Singapore, 28 – 29 April 2004;

and

Regulating International Contracts, Hard Law/Soft Law, held on 27 May 2004 in collaboration with the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and the Associazione Italiana Arbitrato (AIA).
