The UK Foundation for International Uniform Law
The UK Foundation for International Uniform Law is a company limited by guarantee and registered as a charity with the UK Charities Commission (charity number 111 2484). It is administered by a Trustee Board, and in its fund-raising activities it is assisted by a Development Committee consisting of a number of distinguished lawyers from this country and overseas. Objects
The objects of the Foundation are the advancement of education in the field of international uniform law and comparative law, both in the United Kingdom and overseas, and the promotion and development of international uniform law. It is particularly active in supporting the work of the International Institute for the Unification of Private Law (UNIDROIT) in Rome.
Activities
Fulfilling its educational function the Foundation held international conferences in London in February 2006 and February 2007, each hosted by the international law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, devoted to the 2001 Cape Town Convention on International Interests in Mobile Equipment and Aircraft Protocol. Further conferences on this and other fields of international uniform law are planned.
Scholarships
The Foundation has established the following annual scholarships:
- A scholarship of £5,000 for DPhil students in the University of Oxford engaged in research in the field of international uniform law and/or comparative law relating to commercial transactions, broadly construed
- A scholarship of £5,000 for PhD students in the University of Cambridge engaged in research in either or both of the above fields
- A scholarship of £5,000 tenable at UNIDROIT for research within either or both of the above fields.
Grant
The Foundation has made a grant of £15,000 to UNIDROIT for the appointment of a research assistant to engage in research in a current UNIDROIT project of uniform law.

- contribute to reduce legal risk, particularly in cross-border transactions for which national laws have proved seriously inadequate
- promote economic growth in developing countries through the provision of a sound and stable legal regime
- help to bring about a gradual convergence of different legal cultures and traditions
- provide ready on-line access to international private law conventions, model laws, restatements and court decisions on uniform law which will be invaluable both to practising lawyers and to legal scholars
- assist in providing young lawyers with an international lawmaking perspective, thus broadening their horizons and increasing the value of their work at home

You can support the Foundation by:
- making donations to the Foundation's general fund
- making capital endowments for specific projects or posts
