The American Foundation for International Uniform Law

Incorporated in Washington State on 23rd December 2004 the American Foundation for International Uniform Law is a nonprofit tax-exempt corporation (UBI number 602-456-880) administered by a Board of Directors consisting of a number of distinguished lawyers and executives.

Objects

The Foundation was established exclusively for charitable and educational purpose.  Among its particular purposes are:

It is actively supportive of the work of the International Institute for the Unification of Private Law, an international, intergovernmental body set up in 1926 to promote the progressive harmonization of private law.

Activities

As part of its educational activities the Foundation organized a one-day participatory seminar in October 2006 on The Cape Town Convention after Six Months at Fordham University Law School.  The conference was highly successful, attracting many participants.   Further seminars and conference on the Cape Town Convention and related topics are envisaged for 11 November 2008 (New York) and early 09 (London).

Grants

The Foundation has made a grant of $50,000 to UNIDROIT to defray the costs of a major international colloquium in Ougadougou, Burkina Faso, on The Harmonisation of Contract Law within OHADA, any surplus funds to be used to support UNIDROIT’s depositary function under the Cape Town Convention.

Development Committee

The Foundation is currently in the process of establishing a Development Committee whose purpose will be to increase awareness of the Foundation and raise funds to support its work.
